We Pity the Fool Not Following Mr. T’s Thoughtful, Jesus-Obsessed Twitter Account

Twitter is bad. There is no argument about that. The platform has its uses, but the net effect on society has been negative, granting an outsized platform to cynical conspiracy theorists, greedy fear mongers and violent bullies. But sometimes — just sometimes — you can find a Twitter account that makes wading through the quagmire worth it. And one of those accounts belongs to Mr. T.

Yes, that Mr. T. The one-time pro-wrestler, A-Team operative and Rocky opponent has had a spiritual transformation like few others, using his Twitter to almost exclusively promote thoughtful, biblical reflections on what’s happening in the world around him. Unlike many Christians on Twitter, Mr. T isn’t here to dunk on culture, “take back America for God” or any such nonsense. No, while Mr. T once spent all his time pitying fools, now he seeks to bless and educate them with biblical wisdom.

Look, if you spend any amount of time on Twitter, you know good words are hard to come by. Even the best of us can get sucked into the toxic whirlpool of negative energy that seems to feed on that website, but Mr. T’s spiritual health is at least as strong as his biceps and he is so far committed to spreading love, courage and wisdom online.

In 2005, Mr. T (born Lawrence Tueraud) had a bit of a spiritual awakening in New Orleans where he was helping with Hurricane Katrina relief. He ditched his famous gold jewelry to identify more with people who didn’t have as much. “As a Christian, when I saw other people lose their lives and lose their land and property … I felt that it would be a sin before God for me to continue wearing my gold,” he said at the time. “I felt it would be insensitive and disrespectful to the people who lost everything, so I stopped wearing my gold.”

Now, Mr. T spends most of his time enjoying his retirement from the pro-wrestling circuit, save for the occasional Dancing With the Stars gig and, of course, spreading good biblical vibes online.
